Position Title: Bartender

Accountability: Bartender reports to Community Engagement Manager  

Job Classification: Part-time, hourly. $12/ hour + tips

About: Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation (Catawba Riverkeeper) was founded in 1997 as the 21st waterkeeper organization in the U.S. Now, proudly part of an international movement that boasts over 400 local organizations, we preserve, protect, and restore the waters of the Catawba-Wateree River Basin for all through education, advocacy, and engagement. Our 5,000 square mile river basin includes over 8,900 miles of waterways across 26 counties in North and South Carolina. 

The Bartender serves as an integral member of the community engagement team and is primarily responsible for providing an excellent visitor experience at one of our establishments that serve drinks as well as hosts programs, offer recreation rentals and merchandise for sell.  An ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, the desire and ability to serve our guests, and excellent customer service skills so to represent the organization in the highest form.

Responsibilities 

• Proudly serve the local community, serving as a brand ambassador, promoting awareness and advocacy for the Catawba Riverkeeper and our mission.
• Provides a welcoming, friendly, and inclusive experience for all guests at all times.
• Creatively and effectively prepares alcohol and/or non-alcohol beverages for bar patrons.
• Provides excellent customer service, assessing requests and preferences, and serving drinks.
• Serves guests with other products and services, such as merchandise and recreational rentals.
• Provides quick and easy point-of-sale transactions for our guests and participants.
• Accurately reviews customers’ identification to confirm legal drinking age.
• Proactively restocks and replenishes bar inventory and supplies as needed.
• Actively complies with all food and beverage regulations.
• Conducts and maintains daily reports and closing procedures.
• Proudly maintains a professional work area, while always ensuring a professional presentation to the public.
• Develops and maintains broad knowledge of the Catawba Riverkeeper organization and able to answer various and broad reaching questions.
• Exemplifies the Catawba Riverkeeper mission statement and supports staff, departments and leadership in pursuing and achieving goals.
• Performs any other duties needed to help drive to our vision, fulfill our mission, and abide by our values.

Requirements:

• Exhibits a passion for the mission of Catawba Riverkeeper.
• Successfully pass a standard background review.
• 21 years of age.
• Must obtain and maintain the NC ABC Responsible Alcohol Seller/Server Training.
• Committed to a two-week schedule, with consistent attendance.
• Able to work nights, weekends and some holidays.
• Able to lift/move 50 pounds.
• Willing to serve all guests equally regardless of their race, color, religion, national origin, age, gender, marital status, disability, veteran status, genetic information, gender identity and/or sexual orientation.

Education & Experience:

• Previous food and beverage experience.
• Active CPR/First Aid certification. Riverkeeper hosts courses throughout the year
• Strong management skills.
• Comfortable speaking to a wide range of people and customizing communication accordingly.
• Ability to maintain an organized and detailed workflow with changing variables
• Ability to make quick decisions and remain calm in various situations
• Comfortable working autonomously as well as working in a team environment

• The River Room (McAdenville, NC) - Taproom and event venue.
• The Boathouse (McAdenville, NC) - Outfitter and event venue with a bar.
• Confluence (Cramerton, NC)- Community center and event venue with a bar.
