Job Description

Position Summary:

The First-Gen Student Coordinators have the responsibility of helping to foster a sense of belonging for students and visitors to the Office of Academic Diversity (OADI). Additionally, First-Gen Coordinators will support students as they progress through UNC Charlotte. This includes engaging activities such as delivering training sessions f0r First-Gen students and faculty/staff, facilitating study sessions, conducting meaningful events, recruiting First-Gen participants, setting up outreach tables, working on specific projects associated with OADI and Transition & Success Initiatives (TSI) as well as other duties as assigned. Presentations and program activities may be performed outside of the regular work hours from 9am-5pm (occasional evenings and weekends) due to the needs of First-Generation students.

  • First-Gen Coordinators work up to 20 hours per week with some evening and weekend hours. First-Gen Coordinators will schedule weekly office hours; Monday through Friday between 9am and 5pm. 
  • Assist with the development and facilitation of First-Generation Support Training for faculty and staff
  • The bulk of work will occur January 9, 2023 -May 2, 2023.  
  • Monthly social, tutoring, highlight campus resources, First-Generation Coordinators
  • This position will be paid $10.00/hour for 20 hours per week

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be an UNC Charlotte student
  • Must be a first-generation college student
  • Must be eligible for Federal Work Study

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability Requirements

  • Positivity and willingness to assist with all first-generation initiatives
  • Ability to deliver, with confidence, presentations to groups of 10+ students, staff and faculty with professional presentation materials and resources, utilizing Canva, Prezi and PowerPoint
  • Interest in developing communication and leadership knowledge and skills
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Ability to work effectively with and without supervision

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Outreach Activities:

First-Generation Coordinators will interact with First-Generation student support group, First-Generation Committee, First-Gen Niners student organizations, Tri-Alpha Honors Society, and any groups to present information on First-Gen programs.
First-Generation Coordinators will work with professional staff members and representatives to identify other kinds of programs and workshops consistent with services offered through the OADI and TSI.
First-Generation Coordinators will perform general recruitment and outreach activities throughout the spring semester, distributing promotional flyers, contacting potential First-Generation participants and staffing campus outreach tables.

Presentations 

First-Generation Coordinators will facilitate presentations to various faculty, classes and student groups on First-Generation support resources & services.

Engagement Activities

First-Generation Coordinators will assist OADI and TSI program personnel with the facilitation of engaging events.

Expectations

First-Generation Coordinators work 20 hours per week with some evening hours. First-Generation Coordinators will schedule weekly office hours; Monday through Friday between 9am and 5pm.
