Job Description

About
The W.S. Lee College of Engineering’s Senior Design Program brings together students and industrial partners in a collaborative research environment in the Industrial Solutions Lab. The multi-disciplinary student teams tackle real-world engineering projects.

The Project
******The Procurement Internship would be a graduate level project only (so they are allowed to use 49er Mart). The Procurement Intern will work under the supervision of the Senior Design Program Manager. The Procurement Internship offers hands-on, real-world experience in purchasing and project support in a collaborative environment. Through this role, the intern will develop professional skills while playing the key role in purchasing for engineering capstone projects. The Procurement Intern will work with students, project mentors, Industrial Solutions Lab employees and external vendors to ensure materials and services are acquired accurately, efficiently and on time.

Learning Experience
The intern will have the opportunity to develop the following: Practical Procurement Experience, Vendor Communication and Relationship Management Learning opportunities include: • Real -World Application: End to End exposure to the procurement process, from purchase requests to order fulfillment and delivery while adhering to deadlines • Understanding purchasing cycles, lead times, budget constraints and peak-demand planning • Experience working within procurement policies and approval workflows • Professional communication with vendors to place orders and resolve issues • Understanding how vendor relationships impact timelines and reliability • Learning how purchasing supports project timelines and outcomes • Prioritizing requests based on deadlines and urgency • Collaboration-working directly with students, ISL employees and mentors to fulfill project purchase requirements • Using procurement tools such as spreadsheets and tracking systems • Time management and multitasking skills • Written and verbal professional communication • Attention to detail and accountability • Critical thinking and problem-solving when orders change, items are delayed or budgets shift • Experience in a cooperative and team-oriented atmosphere by contributing as needed to the program’s overall needs

Outcomes
By the end of the internship, the intern will have real-world experience completing the procurement cycle for the senior design program’s project purchasing. The intern will have hands on experience and a practical understanding of how procurement functions in a project- driven environment. The intern will have knowledge of how purchasing directly impacts project success.
