Job Description
Through the Community centered-archiving grant managed by with the University of California-Irvine, UNC Charlotte’s Atkins Library is seeking an intern to assist with digitizing community and church archival materials. The person in this position will be responsible for digitizing archival materials and creating metadata to be preserved at Atkins Library. The intern will also engage with the owners of said materials to gain further insight of their origin. They will also work with the local Presbyterian community and Atkins Library to share selected materials from the archives online.
Responsibilities include:
- Interviewing congregation members
- Describing and create metadata for interviews
- Loading digital objects and metadata into an appropriate platform
- Contributing to a plan for outreach
- Conducting archival research and contributing to community history

- Metadata and preservation standards for archival materials

Qualifications:
- Knowledge of, or interest in African American history, Presbyterian Church history and the antebellum period
- Experience or graduate coursework conducting independent historical research
- Experience or graduate coursework in digital history
- Ability to learn new systems quickly
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
