The Internship
Peer Advisors serve as paraprofessionals in the College of Health and Human Services Advising Center. Trained peer advisors will work with undergraduate Pre-Nursing, Pre-Exercise Science, Pre-Public Health, Social Work Lower Division, and Health Systems Management students, primarily freshman and sophomores, and help them with academic concerns and on-campus resource referrals. Peer Advisors will work with students through various interactions including: one-on-one meetings, group advising, and e-mail correspondence.

Learning Experience
This learning experience will support the development of strong leadership skills. Students will engage with their peers while strengthening their ability to communicate effectively, think critically, and develop solutions

Outcomes
Demonstrate Leadership and Initiative: Serve as a role model for students by exhibiting responsibility, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement in advising practices. Deliver Advising Services Across Formats: Effectively conduct one-on-one meetings, group advising sessions, walk-in coverage, and virtual/email advising while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism. Facilitate Student Access to Resources: Identify student needs and connect them with appropriate campus services, CHHS Academic Advisors, and support programs when issues extend beyond the peer advisor role. Provide Effective Academic Support: Deliver accurate guidance to undergraduate students on course planning, academic policies, campus involvement, and available academic resources to support student success.
