Gig: Charity Ratings - Status Verification

The Project
We are a local nonprofit and need to update our charity ratings, which show donors the reputation, documents and service data of the nonprofit. This will involve learning what charity ratings are, which ones are available to International House, finding out what the requirements are to join or update our profiles, as well as creating a guide for our Development team that will give us the information needed each year to maintain those ratings.

Learning Experience
Learning is always the goal of time in college and this student will learn many new things. They will learn the structure and workings of a nonprofit organization, which is quite different than a corporation. They will learn more research tools as they determine what a charity rating is, what is required to get one, what is required to maintain one, and they'll have to gather specific data from International House to fulfill each rating's requirements. This student will learn about the donation process and how nonprofits depend on them. They will learn quite a bit about International House all the while.

Outcomes
First, we will give them a tour of International House so they understand all that we do - which is more than most people think. We will then give them an outline of our expectations that they can do on their own time to include learning what a charitable rating is, who offers them, what IH has to do to obtain one and then what IH has to do to maintain that rating. With their help, we will list these on our website so donors feel more assured that we steward donor funds ethically and for the benefit of those we serve. UNC Charlotte Gig Training Program
