Job Description
The Jamil Niner Student Pantry is dedicated to addressing food insecurity among UNC Charlotte students by providing access to nutritious food and essential items. Under the leadership of the Program Director for Basic Need Services, Graduate Assistant (GA) for the Jamil Niner Student Pantry will support daily operations of the student pantry, assist with community engagement, and contribute to the planning and execution of pantry-related programs and initiatives. As a member of the Basic Needs Services team and when needed, the GAs will assist with supporting students experiencing a broad range of issues, concerns, and stressors through interventions, referrals, and follow-up services. This position offers a unique opportunity for graduate students interested in community service, community organizing, and college student welfare. Students must demonstrate a passion for community service, college student success, and addressing food and other resource insecurity.
This is a 20 hour per week position during Fall and Spring semesters, with the option to work during the summer semester as availability permits. Must be a graduate student at UNC Charlotte, with a preference for students in programs related to social work, public health, education, student affairs, or nonprofit management.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with the day-to-day management of the student pantry, including stocking shelves, inventory management, and ensuring the pantry’s space is clean, organized, and welcoming.
Provide direct support to students accessing the pantry services, ensuring confidentiality and a positive experience.
Help plan and execute pantry events, including food drives, outreach campaigns, and collaboration with other campus organizations to raise awareness about food insecurity.
Supervise UPIP interns. Provide guidance and support through onboarding, regular check-ins, constructive feedback, coordination of schedules, task delegation, and monthly staff meetings.
Serve as the point of contact for all volunteers, volunteer events, and service learning experiences. Oversight of volunteer experience inclusive of ensuring completion of training, coordinating daily tasks, regular check-ins, and certification of completed hours.
Work with community partners, such as Nourish Up and Harris Teeter, to manage donation drop offs. Pick up donations from community partners as needed.
Work with the Program Director to develop relationships with campus departments, local businesses, and community organizations to enhance pantry operations and broaden resources available to students.
Support the facilitation of the Swipe Out Hunger program in collaboration with the Program Director, assisting with inquiry response, advertisement, meeting with students interested in the program, and other administrative tasks.
Support the development of educational programs on food security, nutrition, and healthy eating for students, faculty, and staff.
Assist in tracking pantry usage, maintaining records, and creating reports to assess the effectiveness of the pantry’s services.
Assist in the creation of marketing materials (flyers, social media posts) to increase pantry awareness and promote its services among the student body.
