Profile of your organization/department
The University Center for Academic Excellence (UCAE) is UNC Charlotte’s largest academic support unit. The UCAE provides academic support services and resources that increase learning effectiveness, enhance student success, and promote academic excellence.

Description of the project and location (in-person, hybrid,
or remote)
The UCAE is looking for a student to help us develop some specific communication and marketing projects. This position will be hybrid. Students will need to work in Colvard and the Klein Hall occasionally, but most of the work can be completed independently.

Project scope
The UCAE is looking to develop several specific communication and marketing tools to expand its opportunities to reach students. These tools include multiple newsletters targeting different audiences, a digital sign, and table tent announcements. The student in this role will need to design templates for each of these tools and draft several editions of each. The content will include information from the UCAE and its campus partners so the student will need to research and contact peer offices to collect information to include in the tool.

Preferred student demographic and qualifications
This student will need the following skills:
• Clear, concise writing
• Basic design skills
• Comfort with design software like Canva or the ability to learn software quickly
• Willingness to reach out to campus partners
• Independent research
• Generating content ideas for different audiences

Hours required for completion
Approximately 40 hours, but the project is flexible and can be condensed or expanded

Describe how the student will benefit from participation
(learning experience)
The student will have several products at the end to include in a portfolio. They will gain
experience drafting written content for different audiences. They will gain in depth
knowledge about the services, events, and programs available at Charlotte.
Outline the expected outcomes
• Develop usable templates for several specific communication tools
• Draft several editions of each tool
• If time, create an assessment plan to determine the impact and reach of each tool
