Description:
United Protective Technologies is seeking a Research and Development Operations Assistant to join our project management team and apply skills to drive project performance and contribute to the company’s success. The R&D Operations Assistant supports the Research & Development team by managing documentation, compliance, safety, and operational activities. This role ensures organized, efficient, and audit-ready R&D operations while assisting with data tracking and analysis to improve project performance and compliance.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Maintain and organize project folders, documentation, and templates in compliance with AS9100 and internal quality systems.
- Manage lab and office organization, including equipment and supply inventory, purchasing requests, and vendor coordination.
- Administer equipment and tool calibration schedules, ensuring up-to-date certificates and records.
- Support Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) programs, including inspections, training logs, and Monthly Safety Briefs.
- Coordinate meetings, project reviews, and communications between R&D staff, management, and external partners (including UNCC Business Partnership).
- Support onboarding, safety orientation, and administrative needs for new R&D personnel.
- Work under the direction of the Program Managers.
- Must wear appropriate PPE as needed and adhere to all safety standards.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
- Experience working in a team environment.
- Experience in facility management.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office software and general data management concepts.
- Solid communication skills (both written and oral).
- Demonstrated ability to learn new skills.
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen.
Desired Skills/Qualifications:
- Working practical knowledge of AS9100.
- Experience in aerospace, defense, or advanced materials R&D environments.
- Knowledge of SBIR/STTR programs and DoD project reporting requirements.
- Experience with ERP, asset tracking, or data visualization tools (e.g., Unanet, Deltek, Power BI).
Education/Experience Requirements:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred.
- 2+ years of administrative or technical support experience in an R&D, engineering, or manufacturing environment.
