Job Description

We are seeking a structural engineer to join our team. In this position, the Engineer will perform structural analysis and design, develop building information models, prepare structural drawings and specifications, and perform construction administration on a variety of projects. Project types include higher education, K-12 schools, municipal buildings, civic buildings, industrial buildings, water and wastewater treatment structures, and other specialty structures.

Specific tasks include:

  • Participate in on-site building investigations for existing structures
  • Collaborate with other design team members such as architects and engineers and consult with building owners or facility managers on a regular basis
  • Research building codes and standards to include the North Carolina Building Code (NCBC / IBC), Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), as well as individual materials standards such as AISC, ACI, NDS, etc.
  • Analyze structures using the RISA software suite (RISA Floor, 3D, & Connection). Other design is performed using Enercalc, DeepEx, and Woodworks software as well as written calculations.
  • Assist in the preparation of design drawings using Autodesk Revit software
  • Prepare building evaluation reports through research and analysis
  • Perform construction administration duties such as shop drawing review, site visits, and special
    inspections

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or similar)
  • Minimum of (3) years’ experience is preferred, but candidates with less or more experience will be
    evaluated on an individual basis
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. Preference will be given to
    candidates having obtained their Professional Engineering (PE) licensure
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are a plus
  • Experience in using Autodesk Revit software or ability to learn quickly
  • Familiarity with RISA design suite is preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Willingness and ability to work both in an office environment and on construction sites
  • While working on a job site, may occasionally be required to bend, stoop, or crawl; perform overhead work and climb ladders
