Job Description
Purpose of Position:
Peer Guides are graduate assistant fellows who support the advising mission at UNC Charlotte as paraprofessionals in the centralized Peer Hub located on campus within Niner Central and in partnership with the Division of Undergraduate Education. Peer Guides assist the Peer Hub supervisor in the training and management of a team of undergraduate Peer Advisors who provide general advising services to undergraduate students. Peer Guides assist and support Peer Advisors as daily team leaders and provide guidance to them for relevant processes, procedures, and campus resources their student advisees may need. Peer Guides will assist with organizing and managing Peer Hub’s participation at events, outreach campaigns, and other student programming that help to empower students to take ownership of their college experience. Peer Guides will coach and mentor Peer Advisors toward their individual career or graduate school goals.
This position is for Spring 2025 and may have potential to continue for Summer 2025.
Knowledge and Skill:
- Ability to work with individuals and groups.
- Ability to prepare and deliver training presentations.
- Must be proficient with technology and interested in identifying and adopting technological advances in the field.
- Well-developed interpersonal marketing and communications skills.
- Open, friendly, personable attitude and excellent customer service skills.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Be an information resource and work process guide for Peer Advisors.
- Assist supervisor with request management by monitoring walk-in and email queues and virtual appointment calendar and assigning work to available Peer Advisors.
- Assist supervisor with graduate student requests for general advising support services.
- Present group training sessions for Peer Advisors on professional or personal growth topics.
- Mentor one or more Peer Advisors in weekly individual sessions toward their career/post-grad goals.
- Assist supervisor with outreach campaigns management which may include campaign design and reporting responsibilities.
- Coaching and modeling Peer Advisors toward good work habits, role expectations, and best practices.
- Assist supervisor with planning and organizing Peer Hub activities on campus including representing Peer Hub as needed.
- Provide overflow peer advising services.
- Provide observations and feedback for term evaluations of each Peer Advisor.
- Create materials for workshops, discussion groups, and other group advising activities.
- Assist supervisor with coordinating efforts within university advising community for development of “events/programs” that empower students to take ownership of their academic experience, learn to self-advise, prepare earlier for registration period and when meeting with their advisor.
