Belk College of Business Peer Advisor Program

The Internship
Trained Peer Advisors will work with undergraduate Pre-business, Pre-Accounting, or Pre-Economics students, primarily freshmen & sophomores, and help with academic concerns and on campus resource referrals. Peer Advisors will work with students through various interactions including 1:1 meetings (in person & virtual), group advising (in person & virtual), & email. Additionally, this UPIP Lead would be responsible for supervising the other peer advisors and leading and creating peer advisor specific projects. Specific responsibilities include: Supervise the peer advisors. Track the peer advisors time off request. Create, coordinate, and lead peer advisor specific related projects. Co-train new peer advisors with onboarding. Co-lead and prepare for weekly staff meetings Participate in a UPIP Focus Group. Assist students with advising needs such as: creating class schedules, how to get involved on campus, finding academic resources, & explaining academic policies. Advertise the Peer Advising Program to all undergraduate BCOB students through class presentations, emails, & flyers. Be responsive to students' concerns through emails and follow up on questions that cannot be answered in appointments. Refer students to full-time Academic & Career Coach or other appropriate university faculty/staff or resources as needed. Represent the Belk College of Business as a student ambassador at selected university events such as EXPLORE, WCIDWAMI, Admitted Students' Day, etc. Become familiar with academic regulations and university business core requirements. Provide coverage of the Peer Advisor Office by maintaining 12 schedule hours per week for each semester of the academic year. Actively participate in weekly 2 hour staff meetings that include professionalism, collaboration, brain-storming, & creating programs. Provide support to the Niblock Student Center by working on projects that include but are not limited to: facilitating group advising presentations, serving as a back up drop-in advisor, preparing curriculum guides, writing blog posts, and calling/texting campaigns. Participate in training prior to the start of fall classes and continuous training via weekly staff meetings. Meet weekly with an assigned Academic & Career Coach mentor for progress discussion and professional/career development.
