Community, Operations, and Resource Enhancement (CORE) Intern 


Founded in 2002, A.S.P.I.R.E. Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering historically marginalized individuals in the Greater Charlotte area. We provide culturally conscious services, resources, and programs that support people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, and others in need. Our work includes direct community outreach, resource distribution, educational initiatives, and advocacy efforts to help individuals achieve independence and personal growth. As a growing nonprofit, we offer interns an opportunity to make a tangible impact while gaining invaluable hands-on experience in nonprofit management.


About the Internship
This is not your typical "go get coffee" internship, this is an opportunity to make a real difference. As the CORE intern, you will be at the heart of our nonprofit operations, supporting critical initiatives that shape our organization’s future. Therefore, you will be expected to work with us on-site (4917 Albemarle Road, Charlotte, NC) and out in the community for most of the internship. Some remote work is possible and can be arranged with the supervisor. Through this internship, you’ll gain hands-on experience in nonprofit management, community engagement, program coordination, and strategic development. By the end of this internship, you will have measurable achievements to add to your resume, as well as transferable skills applicable to a wide array of careers.


Intern Responsibilities:


• Administrative Support: Assist with email correspondence, maintain volunteer records, draft newsletters, and track engagement metrics.
• Community Engagement & Outreach: Assist with the planning and management of educational programs and outreach efforts.
• Event Coordination & Volunteer Management: Assist with planning our Giving Festival (a free food and clothing event), coordinate event logistics, manage event registrations, and support volunteer communications.
• Fundraising & Grant Writing: Organize fundraising initiatives, research and identify grant opportunities, and contribute to donor engagement strategies.
• Communications & Social Media: Manage our social media presence by creating content, responding to inquiries, and strengthening our outreach efforts—video creation and editing experience is a plus.
• Content Creation & Marketing: Write blogs for our website, develop promotional materials, and help tell the story of A.S.P.I.R.E.'s impact.
• Event Photography & Documentation: Capture meaningful moments at community events and create visual content for reports, marketing, and social media.


Key Deliverables:


By the end of the internship, a successful intern will complete the following:
1. Plan and execute at least one educational or outreach program and document impact through participant feedback or event success metrics
2. Identify at least two grant or funding opportunities and draft one grant proposal
3. Develop an annual content calendar for social media with at least four weeks of scheduled posts
4. Increase audience engagement through strategic content creation (measured by number analytics and number of followers)
5. Write and publish at least two informative blog posts (300-500 words each)


Learning Outcomes Throughout this internship, you will:
• Gain real-world experience in non-profit management, including strategic planning and program execution
• Develop community engagement skills, learning how to work effectively with diverse populations
•Build fundraising and grant writing abilities that are crucial for nonprofit sustainability
• Strengthen event planning and volunteer coordination expertise
• Enhance digital marketing and social media strategy skills
• Improve written communication through content creation
• Develop leadership and problem-solving skills in a dynamic and hands-on setting


Ideal Candidate:

We’re looking for someone who is passionate, hardworking, and ready to dive into nonprofit work with a can-do attitude. Ideal candidates must:
• Be a self-starter who takes initiative and works well independently.
• Have strong communication skills and be comfortable engaging with a diverse population.
• Have an interest in nonprofit leadership, social impact, or community advocacy.
• Have experience in at least one of the following: event planning, managing social media for an organization, or fundraising.
• Maintain a flexible schedule and be available for nights and weekends as needed.
• Be highly organized with strong attention to detail.
• Have access to reliable personal transportation.
• Be comfortable using the suite of cloud-based Google applications and Microsoft Office software (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint)


Additionally, it would be awesome to work with someone who has:
• Connection to or lived experience within the communities we serve
• Previous administrative or non-profit work experience
• Undergraduate major in Business and Nonprofit Management, Social Work, Urban Studies, Public Health, Political Science, Communication Studies, Education, Human Rights, Ethnic, Gender, or Sexuality Studies, Child & Family Development
