Industrial 3D Printing & Additive Manufacturing Intern

POSITION PROFILE

We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Industrial 3D Printing - Additive Manufacturing Intern. This role provides exposure to AM production, engineering services, quality control, DfAM innovation projects, machine/material validation, and customer-facing AM operations. This internship may be a full-year co-op (approx. 42 weeks) or semester-based (12-16 weeks).

Learning Outcomes

• Gain hands-on experience in industrial additive manufacturing.

• Develop engineering, production, and process documentation skills.

• Learn quality control and inspection techniques for AM environments.

• Engage in real-world DfAM, prototyping, and validation activities.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, and Certifications):

Required:

• Undergraduate or Graduate Student at North Carolina State University (Required).

• Majoring in Industrial Design or Mechanical Engineering (Preferred).

• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Preferred:

• Coursework with CAD and 3D printing technologies strongly preferred.

• Experience in lab or shop environments where chemicals are handled is helpful.

• Familiarity with programming languages is a plus.

WORKING CONDITIONS, MENTAL AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Typically works in an office environment with adequate lighting and ventilation, and a normal range of temperature and noise level.

• Work assignments are diversified. Interpret, comprehend and apply complex material, data and instruction.

• Prepare, provide and convey diversified information.

• Minimal physical effort required. Work is mostly sedentary but does require walking, standing, bending, reaching, lifting or carrying objects that typically with less than 10 lbs. (e.g., papers, books, files and small parts, etc.).

• Moderate dexterity.

• Regular application of basic skills (calculator, keyboard, hand tools, eye/hand coordination.
