SECU: Family Success Program Internship
SECU Summer Internship Program
Internship
Closes on Friday, May 1, 2026
Job Description
At Families Forward Charlotte, we aim to help local families take the necessary steps towards long-term financial stability. First, we help our families overcome whatever circumstances are holding them back, be it a sudden job loss, a need for affordable housing, or dependable child care. We then empower families with educational programs, life skills, and individualized mentoring that all serve as building blocks for a successful and self-sustaining future. The cycle of multi-generational poverty in Charlotte is powerful but not insurmountable. That's why we meet our families wherever they are and give them all we've got. The Internship
Interns will support our Program Team through hands-on service as well as independent research projects. We offer professional development workshops each month on a variety of topics, providing childcare, transportation, and a fresh meal. Interns will help with behind-the-scenes logistics that make these programs run, including attendance tracking, emailing Uber gift cards, planning youth enrichment activities, and more. They will also get hands-on experience bringing these workshops to life! Additionally, interns will support our volunteer Family Liaisons as they mentor our Family Partners, help write SMART goals, navigate community resources, etc. This hybrid opportunity will be a combination of in-person work as well as independent remote work. Our workshops take place on Tuesday evenings from 6-8PM and Saturdays from 11-1PM, which means most of the hands-on opportunities are during these days/times.
Learning Experience
Interns will gain valuable experience working with families experiencing poverty as they accomplish goals toward economic mobility. They will gain training in EMPath (Economic Mobility Pathway) mentorship, trauma-informed care, growth mindset, motivational interviewing, and more. Interns will have an opportunity to conduct research projects, create resource guides and materials, and develop programming.
Outcomes
Interns will:
-Complete the Foundational EMPath Mobility Mentoring training, Mental Health First Aid, and Trauma Informed Care training
-Conduct valuable research into local resources for housing, mental health, and workforce development
-Help design and implement youth engagement activities to support a two-generational approach to programming
-Develop professional communication, customer service, data entry, and office administration skills
