Summer Intern

Willis Engineers is seeking one or more qualified engineering students for a 2027 Summer Internship position.

Our firm specializes in municipal water and wastewater engineering, with projects including water and wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, pipelines, and other water/wastewater municipal infrastructure. The internship is designed to provide a practical educational experience that compliments the students academic coursework. The intern will work alongside experienced engineers and project managers and will be exposed to multiple phases of municipal engineering projects from planning and design through permitting, bidding, and construction.

By the end of the internship, the student will have opportunities to:

• Apply civil and environmental engineering principles learned through coursework to real-world municipal water and wastewater projects.
• Develop a better understanding of the planning and design process for water and wastewater infrastructure.
• Gain practical experience with engineering drawings, technical specifications, calculations, and project documentation.
• Become familiar with the components and operation of water and wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, pipelines, and related infrastructure.

The intern will assist project engineers and project managers with a variety of activities appropriate to their level of education and experience. Depending on project needs and the student's coursework, activities may include:

• Assisting with engineering calculations and evaluations.
• Preparing or modifying engineering drawings and details.
• Assisting with technical reports, specifications, and other project documentation.
• Participating in site visits and field investigations.
• Observing construction activities

The intern will work directly with licensed professional engineers and experienced project managers. Students will be provided direction for assignments and given clear objectives associated with each task. Regular feedback will be provided to the student. Regular communication with the students supervisor will be used to discuss assignments, answer questions, review progress, and connect the students work to concepts learned through their academic coursework. 

Applicants must be enrolled in a Civil or Environmental Engineering program at an ABET accredited university.
