About
At the Charlotte Urban Institute, we are a nonpartisan, applied research and community outreach institute at UNC Charlotte, seeking solutions to the social, economic and environmental challenges facing our communities.

The Project
The Student Data Specialist will support the Charlotte Urban Institute’s Community Resource Unit (CRU) by aggregating, organizing, and analyzing program data to inform a comprehensive data assessment. This assessment will contribute to the development of a strategic plan for future student engagement and programming. The scope of work includes collecting data from multiple sources (attendance, surveys, program feedback, and participation metrics), cleaning and organizing datasets, identifying trends, and synthesizing findings into actionable insights. The student will also assist in translating data into accessible formats (reports, summaries, and visualizations) to support decision-making and program improvement.

Learning Experience
Through this role, the student will gain hands-on experience in data management, analysis, and applied research within a community-focused setting. They will develop skills in: Data cleaning, aggregation, and interpretation Translating quantitative and qualitative data into strategic insights Using data to inform program design and evaluation Communicating findings through reports and visual storytelling Additionally, the student will gain exposure to community-based research practices and understand how data can drive equitable, impact-oriented decision-making in public and nonprofit sectors.
