DFAM Engineer for Defense and Motorsports
PHOOZY / P-Group
Full-Time
Closes on Tuesday, July 28, 2026
Job Description
We're looking for a DFAM (Design for Additive Manufacturing) Engineer with strong CAD skills and hands-on additive manufacturing experience. You'll work across the full development cycle — from design and simulation through prototyping, scanning, and final production parts.
Undergraduate or graduate mechanical engineering students and recent graduates are both encouraged to apply. What matters most is how you think about design and what you've already built.
What you'll do
- Design components and assemblies optimized for additive manufacturing processes
- Use topology optimization and lattice design techniques to push performance-to-weight ratios
- Run FEA (finite element analysis) to validate structural integrity of designs prior to print
- Perform CFD simulation to assess thermal and fluid behavior of critical parts
- Operate FDM and SLS printing platforms and select the right process per application
- Conduct 3D scanning and reverse engineering to support redesigns and quality validation
- Collaborate directly with senior engineers on defense and motorsport programs from brief to delivery
What we're looking for
- Current undergraduate or graduate student — or recent graduate — in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field
- Strong SolidWorks skills; confidence working in a 3D CAD environment is essential
- Hands-on experience with at least one additive manufacturing process (FDM or SLS)
- Exposure to FEA tools — Abaqus, ANSYS, Fusion 360 Simulation, SimScale, or equivalent
- Familiarity with nTopology or similar generative/implicit design platforms is a strong plus
- Some experience with CFD software and interpreting simulation results
- Experience with 3D scanning or reverse engineering workflows (academic or personal projects count)
- Self-directed, curious, and comfortable in an environment where the answer isn't always in the textbook
Core tools & technologies: SolidWorks, nTopology, FEA (any platform), CFD, FDM, SLS, 3D scanning, Reverse engineering
Nice to have
- Senior design, capstone, or independent project work involving additive manufacturing
- Any exposure to defense, aerospace, or motorsport engineering contexts
- Post-processing knowledge — surface finishing, dimensional inspection, or materials testing
- Interest in materials science as it relates to sintered AM parts
