Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking a talented and innovative Co-Op to join our Molecular Parasitology department located at our Athens, Georgia facility. As an Intern, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in an industry environment. You will contribute to target identification and validation research in parasites and model organisms such as Caenorhabditis elegans. Your work will ultimately contribute to the goal of discovering new veterinary parasiticides. Throughout the course of your work, you will have exposure to multiple functions within Research and Development in animal health.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Routine C. elegans maintenance and analysis.

  • Molecular biology tasks including DNA and RNA isolation, PCR, and RT-qPCR.

  • Work closely with scientists to prioritize assay development that provides solutions for ongoing projects.

  • Good documentation practices, including writing test protocols, generating final reports, and presenting data to laboratory members and/or other functional groups.

  • Will work in a cross functional capacity.

Requirements

  • Must be a current undergraduate, graduate or advanced degree student in good academicstanding.

  • Student must be enrolled at a college or university for the duration of the internship.

  • Overall cumulative minimum GPA from last completed quarter/semester 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) preferred.

  • Major or minor in related field of internship

  • Undergraduate students must have completed at least 12 credit hours at current college or university.

  • Graduate and advanced degree students must have completed at least 9 credit hours at current college or university.

Desired Experience, Skills and Abilities:

  • One year of molecular biology laboratory experience

  • Hands on experience performing molecular techniques including but not limited to DNA/RNA isolation, primer design, PCR, qRT-PCR, etc.

  • Previous experience with C. elegans

  • Exceptional organizational and record-keeping skills.

  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills (both written and oral).

  • Willingness to learn new techniques and apply the acquired knowledge to solve inherent challenges in molecular parasitology.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.

  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
