Job Description

If you enjoy history, computers, and helping provide public access to meaningful sources of history and research, then this position is for you!

Working under the supervision of the Digital Archivist at Atkins Library, the digital archives intern will work directly with electronic (born-digital) archival material, with enduring value to UNCC and to the public.

The position includes transferring records from physical or internet-based media to computer storage, arranging files, and describing the archival material using content standards. The intern will also help create descriptive metadata to help researchers identify and use the archival material.

This position will work closely with the Digital Archivist, as well as the Oral Historian and other members of Special Collections and University Archives team as necessary.

Required Skills
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows 10
• Independent thinking and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to work independently at a computer performing routine and complex repetitive tasks
• Basic familiarity with Linux

Preferred Skills
• Experience with computer media (3.5” disk, Zip disk, 5.25” disk, CD, DVD, DVD-RAM, hard drives, flash drives)
• Knowledge of archival processing (arrangement and description)
* Knowledge of MPLP (More Product, Less Process) and DACS (Describing Archives, A Content Standard)
• Experience with disk imaging programs and/or BitCurator Suite

Work Duties
• Ingest (transfer and image) media (50%)
• Create technical and descriptive metadata and checksums (40%)
• Other born-digital assignments as necessary (10%)
