Job Description
The Family & Supporter Engagement Team is committed to building meaningful partnerships with families as an essential part of the UNC Charlotte experience. We believe that when families are informed, connected, and engaged, students are better supported and positioned for success. Here you'll learn more about Family Weekend, Niner Nation Family Association, Family Council, the 49er Family Hub, 49er Family Fund, and other campus and virtual resources. Our goal is to empower families with the tools and community connections needed to confidently champion their students from orientation through graduation.
The Project
Analyze survey data from Family Weekend attendees. The student would take raw data and create an infographic-style report highlighting satisfaction rates, demographic reach, and "top 3" requested improvements. Intern would also assist with event support throughout Family Weekend.
Skillset: Data analysis & graphic design
Learning Experience
The student will benefit from experience with data synthesis & cleaning, translating data into insights, information design, and executive presence. They will develop a "consultant mindset" and learn how to turn data into a story. All the while deciding which metrics are most important for leadership to see.
Outcomes
The student will provide a comprehensive "Impact Project" that summarizes the success of Family Weekend.
1. Infographic -- A one-page, high-impact infographic designed for quick sharing. Including key metrics and visual representations of overrall satisfaction, total attendance, and geographical reach.
2. "Voice of the Family" Qualitative Summary: A categorized summary of open-ended survey comments; a visual representation of the most common words/trends used by families to describe their experience (word cloud/theme map)
3. Provide strategic recommendations report: provide a data-backed list of three specific changes recommended for next year based on the survey findings (i.e. 40% of families requested more indoor seating; recommend expanding seating available during check-in/at PMSU)
4. Raw Data Appendix: a well organized spreadsheet with pivot tables and charts that the office can use for internal records and future comparison
