Profile of External Relations and Partnerships
The purpose of the Office of External Relations and Partnerships is to be the effective voice and advocate of UNC Charlotte with external audiences, including governmental, corporate, and economic development partners. The Office provides executive counsel to the Chancellor and University Leadership on public policy, corporate engagement, economic development, and community initiatives, and it leads the “Charlotte strategy” for deepening the University’s role in the region.
Project Location and Description
Approximately 60% of this role will involve in-person preparatory work in the University Foundation building (8724 University City Boulevard), Suite 222. The remainder of the time commitment will take place on the date of the spring Board of Visitors meeting (date and location TBD, but it will occur on campus in either late March or early April).
Project Scope
● Manage 8-15 student volunteers for the upcoming, high-level Board of Visitors meeting, which welcomes major, external board members from the private and public sectors
● Oversee communication plans for all student volunteers to ensure clarity of expectations
● Lead virtual or in-person information sessions that convey student expectations and tasks
● Collaborate with the Project Coordinator to compile physical materials
● Implement a successful, Chancellor-level event through active coordination of student volunteers, catering, and space preparation/presentation
● Serve as a model of positive student representation for Niner Nation
● Direct all post-event student messaging
Preferred Student Demographics/Qualifications
● All undergraduate majors welcome
● Junior or senior class standing preferred, but not required
● Prior leadership experience
● Highly professional and positive demeanor
● Excellent communication skills
● Ability to take constructive direction and execute tasks efficiently
● Passion for sharing a love of Niner Nation
Hours Required
Total time commitment: 20-40 hours

● Interfacing with major executives, policymakers, and community leaders in diverse fields
● Gleaning the operational processes of high-level event planning
● Taking ownership of event coordination
● Gaining management experience through the supervision of approximately one dozen student volunteers
Expected Outcomes
● To have implemented a successful Board of Visitors spring meeting
● To have effectively communicated expectations for all student volunteers, both prior to the board meeting and on the day of the event

● To have positively represented Niner Nation in a highly dynamic, high-profile context
