Position Description:
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
Location: Stanfield and Charlotte, NC
Schedule: Flexible, including some weekends and evenings
About Us
Flyaway Geese is a professional working-dog facility specializing in highly trained Border Collies used for wildlife management. Our farm is home to working dogs, puppies, and a variety of farm animals. We are looking for a reliable, detail-oriented individual who loves animals and enjoys hands-on, outdoor work in all weather conditions.
Position Overview
We are seeking a part time Kennel & wildlife technician to help care for our working dogs and farm animals. In the spring, this position may also assist with goose management.
This role is perfect for someone dependable, who can work a flexible schedule, is animal-savvy, and comfortable with physical labor.
Key responsibilities:
- Clean, sanitize, and reset kennels, dog runs, and exercise areas.
- Feed and water all working dogs, puppies, and farm animals.
- Monitor animal health and behavior, and report concerns immediately.
- Rotate dogs through turnout yards and ensure clean, safe environments.
- Maintain cleanliness in common areas, equipment rooms, and feed storage.
- Restock food, bedding, supplements, and cleaning supplies.
- Walk and exercise dogs following specific routines and safety guidelines.
- Provide evening feedings and medications as instructed.
- Complete nightly kennel checks.
Seasonal (Spring) – Optional/As Needed
- Assist handlers with goose hazing on local properties.
- Support basic working-dog field routines (recall, obedience, controlled exposure).
Examples of a Typical Day:
Weekend Morning Shift
- Arrive and complete dog headcount
- Clean kennels and disinfect runs
- Feed dogs, livestock, and poultry according to feeding charts
- Turn out dogs for exercise rotations
- Sweep, hose down, and reorganize equipment areas
Evening Shift
- Walk assigned dogs
- Refill water buckets
- Evening feed and check all animals
- Secure kennels for the night
Requirements
- Reliability and dependability are crucial.
- Must be dependable, punctual, and attentive to detail.
- Prior experience with dogs, kennels, or farm animals strongly preferred.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds with or without accommodation.
- Must be able to walk on uneven terrain in all types of weather.
- Must be able to perform repetitive tasks including lifting, bending, stooping, kneeling.
- Skill to interpret and understand company practices as well as all procedures, manuals, safety regulations, directives, and other work related documents.
- Positive attitude, good communication, and willingness to learn.
- Skill and ability to represent the company professionally to the public.
- Must have skills to be able to individually identify animals after initial two-week orientation.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including some weekends and holidays, with notice.
- Must have reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with working or herding breeds
- Kennel, vet tech, farm hand, or handler experience
- Ability to safely handle multiple dogs at once
- Interest in wildlife management or goose-dog work (training provided)
