Job Description
The Associate Director also informs advising processes and practices within CHESS and serves as an information resource to students and faculty and staff, which include Department Chairs and Associate Chairs, Undergraduate Coordinators, faculty advisors, and professional advisors in the college. The Associate Director also serves in the Advising Systems Specialist role.
The Associate Director will also be responsible for supervising advisors within the college (along with another Associate Director and the Director of Advising). Supervisory duties include: approving time off requests, training, mentoring, addressing staff issues, and escalating student concerns as appropriate.
The Associate Director assists the Director of Advising to ensure the academic advisor implements a developmental advising model that involves a tailored series of interactions and communications using advising tools and systems designed to address the specific needs of the students served by CHESS. This tailored, developmental approach acknowledges that individual student profiles and those of student cohorts may differ not only at the onset of the student academic experience, but throughout their academic career. The Associate Director must have the experience, education, and background necessary to serve the educational function of an advisor, however he or she is doing so in a context developed by the College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences, and in collaboration with the Advising Director and other colleagues.
