Job Description
Student Centers Training & Development Graduate Assistant
The Student Centers mission is to provide services and spaces that create a welcoming environment for the university community to support student success. Our team cultivates student potential by providing meaningful employment opportunities and integrated support services and programs.
The graduate assistant will:
- Be expected to complete a 20 week assistantship experience that will combine a variety of operations and programming experience in a student centers and university center environment.
- Work closely with full time staff members to gain specific knowledge related to a student union, university center operations, and student development.
- Report directly to the Student Centers Assistant Director for Student Experience and Staff Development and attend weekly one-on-one meetings.
- Oversee specific aspects of the Student Employment Program, including the development of training(s), programming, and supervising a group of student leaders.
- Attend department meetings and events as directed by their supervisor and complete projects and other duties as assigned.
- May be required to lift up to 30 pounds.
- Must be in good standing with the university.
- Must be enrolled in classes.
Job Duties:
Student Development / Training
- The graduate assistant will directly oversee the Art Gallery team. This includes active involvement in recruitment, training, evaluation and daily management of this group of student leaders.
- Actively plan and oversee elements of the four student employee staff trainings throughout the academic year.
- Oversee the Career Readiness Program. The Career Readiness Program is a program specifically designed for Student Centers student employees to translate their on campus jobs into their career aspirations. Topics covered in the semester long program include resume review, interview practice, reflecting on values, salary negotiation, etc.
- Support Student Employee recognition efforts including planning student staff appreciation programming.
- The graduate assistant will work with their supervisor each year to determine the program aspects to be planned.
- The graduate assistant will be responsible for helping to develop and administer assessment tools as it relates to training and development.
Operations
- The graduate assistant will be expected to develop an understanding of student union operations, and could be expected to work hours after 5pm on operations related tasks. - The graduate assistant will work with their supervisor to identify operations related projects to be involved in.
- The graduate assistant will be responsible for helping to develop and administer assessment tools as it relates to student union operations.
- The graduate assistant will develop partnership with Student Affairs offices and other campus offices such as Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Police & Public Safety (PPS), Facilities Management (FM) as it relates to event and facility operations.
Professional Development
- The graduate assistant will participate in all departmental student employee supervisor meetings and training(s).
- The graduate assistant will complete all necessary HR and UNC Charlotte training as applicable to their role.
- The graduate assistant will work with their supervisor each semester to determine applicable projects to be completed based on the needs of the department and interests of the graduate assistant.
