Job Description

We seek to hire a Structural Engineering Student during Summer 2024 who will perform various tasks within the assigned design department that may entail special project assignments and/or active involvement in project design and documentation. 

General responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop structural engineering analysis and design skills
  • Perform various aspects of structural design, including conceptual studies, program requirements, design analyses, calculations, systems selection and layout for building design
  • Participate in team meetings and coordinate efforts with other team members
  • Work with a team of architects, engineers, interior designers and landscape architects
  • Contribute to the preparation of construction documents
  • Prepare calculations related to analysis and design of structural engineering projects.
  • Perform various services associated with the construction phase, including field visits, answering RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and preparing record drawings
  • Learn quality control policies and procedures
  • Become familiar with department and company standards

Education, Technology, and Experience

  • Currently enrolled as a full-time student in an ABET accredited program and have completed at least their second year of study in one of the following programs:
    • Civil Engineering
    • Civil and Environmental Engineering
    • Civil Engineering Technology
    • Architectural Engineering
  • Completion of coursework in statics and structural analysis strongly preferred
  • Completion of coursework in structural material design (steel, concrete) is preferred
  • Able to effectively utilize current company software programs for word processing, e-mail, and information management.
  • One previous architectural or engineering internship or relevant work experience is preferred

  • Ability to arrange housing for the period of employment
  • Ability to prepare effective and concise documents
  • Possess technical precision and creative design skills
  • Ability to make presentations to a variety of groups
  • Display abilities to work well with others in a team environment

Physical Requirements

Work is sedentary and often performed in an office setting. Work area is lighted, heated, and ventilated. This position may require extended periods of standing, sitting, as well as some repetitive movements, bending and lifting of minimal weight. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Workplace Flexibility

We have selected two as common days in the office to nurture collaboration and innovation and to support learning and growth through engagement with colleagues. We are asking everyone to be present on Mondays and Thursdays, with a required third day that will provide additional flexibility and be set between you and your supervisor (with consideration given to your project team members and clients).
