Job Description
The Department of Languages, Cultures and Translation engages in innovative research and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels to develop students’ language and communication skills, cultural knowledge, intercultural competency, literacy, and critical thinking in order to prepare its graduates for participation in an increasingly global and multilingual society. The Department of Languages, Cultures and Translation is committed to research and teaching excellence as manifested in its offerings in translation and interpreting, linguistics, literary and cultural studies, and language for specific purposes.
The Project
This project requires a student to edit and modernize the Arabic Studies Minor web page. The goal is to build an engaging, clear program hub that highlights course tracks, study abroad opportunities, internships, students’ success stories, social media links, program cultural events/activities, and career-based skills for prospective minor students, alumni, and faculty members.
Project Scope
1) Curriculum Audit: Update the minor's required core classes and electives.
2) Immersive Opportunities Hub: Create distinct sections for study abroad programs, Arabic conversation tables, and student clubs.
3) Media Integration: Source, format, and upload high-resolution photos from department cultural events or student trips abroad.
4) Publishing: Format and publish the updated layout using the university’s System template.
Learning Experience
1) Technical Proficiency: Gain hands-on experience with modern Content Management Systems (CMS) like WordPress and basic HTML
2) Portfolio Building: Compile a robust portfolio of published digital content, including program highlights, program events/clubs, faculty research features, and student success stories.
3) Professional Communication: Translate complex academic jargon into engaging, clear, and scannable content tailored for prospective students, alumni, and faculty.
4) Campus Networking: Work directly with department chairs, professors, and career service staff, which often leads to stronger letters of recommendation, and mentorship.
5) Time Management & Organization: Manage content calendars, adhere to publication deadlines, and coordinate updates across various department stakeholders.
Outcomes
1. To increase traffic to the Arabic Studies minor webpage through targeted outreach.
2. To improve student awareness of the Arabic Studies minor by enhancing the clarity, accessibility, and appeal of the program’s online presence.
3. To ensure that accurate, up-to-date information about program requirements, courses, skills learned, and career pathways is prominently displayed on the minor webpage.
4. To leverage institutional communication channels (e.g., department websites, advising pages, social media, and newsletters) to direct prospective students to the minor page.
5. To assess visibility gains by tracking webpage analytics (e.g., page views, unique visitors, referral sources) over the project period.
6. To increase student enrollment and retention in the Arabic Studies minor at UNC Charlotte.
