Job Title: Operations Intern

Reports to: Vice President of Family Programming

Starting: Preferred dates: September 9 - December 20, 2024

Status: 10-15 hours/week 

About Generation Hope:  

Generation Hope is a nonprofit organization with a mission to ensure all student parents have the opportunities to succeed and experience economic mobility by engaging education and policy partners to drive systemic change and providing direct support to teen parents in college as well as their children through holistic, two-generation programming. To date, we have provided over $1.3 million in tuition assistance, supported almost 500 teen parents in college, celebrated almost 200 degrees earned through our program, and built relationships with 30+ two and four-year institutions nationwide. Position:

The Operations Intern position is a flexible part-time or full-time internship, working to enhance the organization’s internal and external effectiveness. The Operations Intern support to the day-to-day operations of Generation Hope. They will be responsible for providing outstanding customer service, being an enthusiastic professional, and being able to build relationships with internal and external constituents. They also represent Generation Hope to nonprofit partners, students, donors, and various other constituent groups. The Operations Intern will work closely with senior organizational leaders including the Vice President of Strategy and Operations and the Vice President of Family Programming. 

Candidates are expected to participate in this internship 10-15 hours per week. Interns will receive an incentive of $1,500 for your participation in the internship program. This incentive is intended to support the costs you may incur during your internship at Generation Hope. Internships begin on September 9th, with some flexibility on starting and ending dates. The internship will be fully remote, although interns located in the DC metro area are welcome and encouraged to attend some in-person events and programming as available. 

Responsibilities:

Expansion Support

  • Support the expansion of Generation Hope’s direct services into a new city by:
    • Researching coworking, storage, and office spaces in the new city and making recommendations to the Vice President of Family Programming 
    • Developing lists of potential partners and supporting the Vice President of Family Programming in connecting with potential partners, including scheduling calls, taking notes, and handling follow up 
    • Working with the Vice President of Family Programming to design and execute recruitment strategy for mentors and student parents in the new site
    • Coordinating logistics for in-person staff interviews in the new site 
    • Researching and starting the process of applying for business licenses and other operational necessities in the new site
    • Supporting the buildout of Generation Hope’s CRM to encompass the new site 
    • Supporting the development of Generation Hope’s replication manual 
    • Setting up and maintaining an organized Google Drive and Monday.com folder for the new site 
    • Beginning the process of creating a Resource Repository for the new site 
    • Other projects related to expansion, as assigned 

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required. Preference will be given to candidates with college experience, particularly those studying Public Administration, Finance, Accounting, Business/Organizational Development, or Human Resource Development. 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs/Google Suites
  • Strong writing and analytical skills.
  • Strong research skills
  • Most importantly, the ideal candidate needs to be self-directed and able to carry through projects with little oversight and in a largely remote environment.
