Job Description

Position Summary

 

The Electrical Technician is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining electrical and control systems for production equipment. This role ensures equipment reliability, supports daily operations, and assists engineers in automation and improvement projects. The Electrical Technician plays a critical role in maintaining safe, efficient, and stable production lines.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Electrical Troubleshooting & Repair
  • Diagnose and repair electrical issues on production equipment, including sensors, motors, drives, PLC I/O, relays, control panels, and communication networks.

    Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and minimize production downtime.

    Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring electrical failures.

     

  • Preventive & Predictive Maintenance
  • Execute preventive maintenance (PM) tasks on electrical systems according to schedule.

    Inspect wiring, control systems, and electrical components for abnormalities or wear.

    Support predictive maintenance activities such as thermal imaging and testing.

     

  • Equipment Installation & Modifications
  • Assist with electrical wiring, panel assembly, equipment installation, and system upgrades.

    Support automation engineers with PLC/HMI modifications when needed.

    Ensure new equipment meets safety and electrical code requirements.

     

  • Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain accurate logs of electrical repairs and PM activities in the CMMS system.

    Update electrical drawings when modifications are made.

    Report recurring issues or risks to the Equipment Manager.

     

  • Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all electrical safety standards including NEC, OSHA, and NFPA 70E.

    Perform proper lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures during maintenance work.

    Ensure equipment is safe and compliant before returning it to production.

     

  • Cross-Functional Support
  • Work with production operators to resolve equipment-related issues.

    Partner with mechanical technicians during complex repairs.

    Support engineering teams during equipment commissioning and process improvements.

     

  • Parts & Tools Management
  • Identify required electrical spare parts and communicate inventory needs.

    Maintain proper use and storage of electrical tools and instruments (multimeter, oscilloscope, etc.).

     

    Qualifications

     

    Education

    High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred.

    Technical diploma or vocational training in Electrical Technology, Automation, Mechatronics, or related field preferred.

     

    Experience

    2–4 years of electrical maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

    Experience with automated machinery, PLC systems, AC/DC drives, sensors, and industrial controls preferred.

    Battery, chemical, electronics, or continuous manufacturing experience is a plus.

     

    Skills

    Strong electrical troubleshooting skills.

    Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.

    Familiarity with PLCs and control systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Omron is a plus).

    Understanding of industrial networks and communication protocols.

    Good communication and teamwork abilities.

    Strong safety awareness and knowledge of LOTO procedures.

     

    Work Environment

    Manufacturing facility with exposure to machinery, electrical systems, and industrial equipment.

    May require shift work, weekend work, or overtime depending on production needs.

     

    Physical Requirements

    Ability to lift up to 40–50 lbs.

    Ability to stand, walk, and access equipment areas for extended periods.

    Ability to bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces when necessary.
