The Anne Springs Close Greenway Summer Camp program is a series of summer camps held on the Greenway in Fort Mill, SC. One of our growing programs is the LIT or Leader In Training program which
teaches leadership skills to high school aged campers to prepare them to support and assist camp counselors during summer camp.

The program is also intended to provide a bridge between the summer
camp experience and working in camp as a counselor. One unique component of our LIT program is that is led by our spring operations interns which requires for the content of the program to be developed in a “plug and play” format allowing for ease of facilitation by our interns.

The project we’re proposing would involve reviewing the existing leadership content to be taught to our LITs and creating teen-friendly lesson plans that could be easily understood and implemented by possible non-education majors that will be interning on the Greenway. Because the lesson plans will
likely be implemented by non-education majors, they would need to be written in layman’s terms and structured to provide all necessary materials in a “plug and play” binder format.

An additional component of the project would be to survey previous or potential (applying for summer 2025) LITs to gain a deeper understanding of what would make the individual training lessons most enjoyable and
effective for the recipients.

The preferred student demographic would be education majors that are seeking to work at the High School level who therefore have skills and training geared specifically toward that age group.

It is expected that the program might require about 5-10 hours of conducting, collecting and analyzing research data and another 20-25 hours of work developing the lesson plans, materials and binder
associated with the leadership concepts.

This project will benefit potential applicants by providing essential lesson planning practice but with a non-traditional subject matter not regularly encountered in traditional school subjects. Additionally, it affords the applicant the opportunity to practice research methods that are beneficial in an academic or professional setting. Finally, since the content of the training program’s lessons is already developed, applicants will have the opportunity to focus on maximizing delivery through the creation of unique and impactful lesson plans.

Finally, the primary expected outcome of the project is that the applicant will provide a physical binder (with a digital counterpart) organized by leadership concept and/or training sessions which contains all of
the information, instruction and materials needed for a non-education major to teach/present the leadership content to the LITs. Additionally, a secondary outcome would be to provide a small-scale research project that will provide data that informs the creation of the lesson plans with an emphasis on maximizing enjoyment and engagement by the LITs who are selected to participate in the program.
