Job Description

Opportunity

The Development Assistant will support the Development team’s efforts to build strong donor relationships and raise money for IRAP’s global legal services and advocacy to ensure that refugees and all displaced people can access their right to live in safety and dignity. The Development Assistant provides executive-level administrative assistance to support the daily operations of the Development Department, including the Development Leadership team.

The Development Assistant may also have the opportunity to develop and hone their skills in fundraising, database administration, project management, relationship management, leadership, and other competencies depending on department needs and individual interest. This position will initially report to the Development Manager. 

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day administrative and operational support to the entire department, and executive assistant-level support to the four-person Development Leadership team, including data entry; preparing basic reports, Board of Director lists, tax documents, and other information as needed; ordering supplies and managing printing and postal mailing; recurring administrative and organizational tasks; taking notes during webinars and meetings; preparing Powerpoint presentations; and responding to inquiries from individuals seeking legal assistance from IRAP using template responses.
  • Handle with high efficiency the large volumes of donation-related data and process all donations daily, including entering all donations received online and offline in IRAP’s brand new fundraising database (Salesforce NPSP) and maintaining a daily revenue tracker and reporting requirements tracker according to the Development Department’s personalized donor relations strategy.
  • Pull lists and reports from Salesforce NPSP and Marketing Cloud for donor outreach, financial reconciliations, year-end fundraising, and other purposes as needed.
  • Generate tax receipts following acknowledgment procedures according to IRS guidelines.
  • Respond to inquiries/requests from donors and prospective donors regarding transactional, technical, and other matters, as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Education
  • B.A. preferred, but equivalent experience and skills considered.
  • Experience
  • 1 year of prior office administrative experience required.
  • Fundraising data management or other data management experience preferred.

  • Interest in fundraising/donor relations required
  • Interest in refugee and humanitarian issues preferred and IRAP’s mission.

In evaluating applications, emphasis will be placed on prior fundraising experience; prior administrative experience; and clearly articulated transferable skills that will enable the candidate to meet the needs of this position. 

Location: The candidate will preferably work in one of IRAP’s offices in New York City or Washington DC, but remote work candidates within the United States will be considered. 

Compensation

This role is paid on a step scale based on years of work experience, education and internal equity. The salary for this role will be $60,000. Subject to a collective bargaining agreement.
