Management, supporting the management, acquisition, and disposition of the University's real property assets. Working on projects under the

The Real Estate Intern will gain hands-on experience in institutional real estate
management, focusing on the complex processes involved in university-owned and leased property. This role provides an unparalleled opportunity to learn about state, UNC System, and University policies governing real property transactions, including leasing, acquisitions, and land use planning.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
The intern will assist FM with the day-to-day operations and strategic initiatives.
• Real Property Transaction Support:
o Assist with FM projects – Particularly our UNC Charlotte – Mallard Creek
Feasibility Study with
o Assist in the preparation of documents and reports required for real property
transactions, such as acquisitions, dispositions, leases, and easements.
o Conduct preliminary due diligence and gather supporting materials (e.g.,
maps, surveys, title information) for potential properties.
o Help coordinate transaction reviews with internal stakeholders (e.g., Legal
Affairs, Space Management, Planning) and external entities, including the
North Carolina State Property Office.
• Leasing and Contract Administration:
o Support the administration of the University's lease portfolio, tracking key
dates, lease terms, and compliance requirements.
o Assist in collecting and organizing data for lease renewal or termination
decisions.
o Review contracts for appraisals, surveys, and investigations related to real
property.
• Research and Analysis:
o Perform market research and financial analysis to support property
valuation and investment decisions.
o Research and summarize relevant North Carolina General Statutes, UNC
System policies, and UNC Charlotte policies to ensure compliance.
o Assist with special projects related to the Campus Master Plan and space
utilization studies.
• Reporting and Documentation:
o Maintain and update the department's real estate database and filing
systems to ensure accurate records of all property assets and transactions.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
• Currently enrolled as a UNC Charlotte student pursuing an undergraduate or
graduate degree in Real Estate, Finance, Business Administration, Urban
Planning, Architecture, or a closely related field.
• Strong academic record.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
Other Qualifications:
• Completion of coursework in real estate law, finance, appraisal, or property
management.
• Experience with mapping/GIS software or property database management systems.
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills with an aptitude for financial modeling.
• Familiarity with the UNC Charlotte campus.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the internship, the intern will be able to:
• Articulate the key legal and policy constraints governing real property transactions
for a public university in North Carolina.
• Execute basic real estate due diligence processes, including title review and market
comparable analysis.
• Demonstrate proficiency in commercial lease administration and documentation.
• Understand the function of a Campus Property Officer as a central administrator
coordinating across university divisions and state agencies.
