About the Internship
The Major Capital Projects (MCP) Department is seeking a Summer Intern to support its Finance/Cost Control team. This internship offers hands-on exposure to the financial and analytical functions that support some of the region's most complex transportation infrastructure projects. Interns will work alongside experienced Port Authority professionals, gaining experience in budgeting, project controls, contract analysis, and financial documentation. This role sits at the center of MCP's mission to deliver major construction projects effectively and efficiently, offering valuable experience for students interested in finance, public service, or infrastructure.
Responsibilities

Review and update project budget documents based on current project information

Analyze change orders and contract documents

Analyze contractor and consultant invoices

Participate in contract close-out processes

Attend project controls and project management meetings with Port Authority professionals

Develop improved workflow processes

Evaluate and review expenditures related to grants and stakeholder agreements

Conduct ad-hoc reporting and financial analyses
Minimum Qualifications
-
Enrollment at a college or university at the time of the internship
-
Major in Finance, Accounting or related discipline
Desired Qualifications

Experience with Microsoft Excel or similar spreadsheet tools

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Interest in contributing to the success of the New York and New Jersey region

Interest in public service and/or transportation
Internship Details

The start date will be Thursday, May 28, 2026

The internship will last approximately 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 21, 2026

This is a full-time internship (5 days per week at 7.25 hours per day)

In accordance with Port Authority policy, this position permits interns to work remotely a maximum of one day per week. In person collaboration is essential to how the Port Authority conducts businessand regular in-office days or team collaboration days may be required depending on business needs. Some internships may require interns to be fully in-person.

Compensation & Benefits

The hourly rate range is $18.07 to $30.31 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year)
