Junior Software Engineer

Job Description

KCI is building an internal AI platform to make our business systems easier for employees to work with. As a Junior Software Engineer, you'll help build it alongside a small engineering team, working directly with senior IT leadership.

What you'll do

• Build and maintain integrations that connect our AI platform to internal systems, including the custom connectors and skills that encode how KCI actually works
• Write and optimize SQL against MySQL and cloud data warehouses, and build the dashboards and reporting that sit on top of it
• Develop automation workflows and small services that connect systems and eliminate manual steps
• Test AI outputs for accuracy before they reach users, implement access controls, and document what you build

Required

• Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field — or equivalent experience with a portfolio of work
• Working proficiency in Python and JavaScript
• Solid SQL fundamentals — joins, aggregation, subqueries
• Familiarity with REST APIs, JSON, and Git
• Clear written communication and genuine curiosity about AI tooling

Preferred, not required

• Hands-on experience with any major LLM API
• Exposure to agent frameworks, RAG pipelines, or model integration protocols
• Workflow automation (n8n, Power Automate), BI tools (Metabase, Power BI), or containers (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Any internship, capstone, or personal project you shipped that other people used

You do not need machine learning experience, a math-heavy background, or years of production experience. This role is scoped and mentored as entry-level.
