About the Internship

The Major Capital Projects (MCP) Department is seeking a Summer Intern to support its Midtown Bus Terminal Replacement Program Management team. This internship offers hands-on exposure to the program management functions that support some of the region's most complex transportation infrastructure projects. Interns will work alongside experienced Port Authority professionals, gaining experience in management of schedules, consultants, design priorities, stakeholder coordination, construction document preparation and environmental requirements. This role sits at the center of MCP's mission to deliver major construction projects effectively and efficiently, offering valuable experience for students interested in finance, public service, or infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule, attend and document planning, engineering and stakeholder coordination meetings.

  • Review and track budget, cost estimates and schedule

  • Review and research development of innovative sustainability and construction methods

  • Performing site visits and developing project update reports

  • Review and track development of conceptual, preliminary engineering and construction documents

  • Review and track development of planning reports

Minimum Qualifications

  • Enrollment at a college or university at the time of the internship

  • Major in Planning, Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft Suite, Bluebeam and AutoCAD

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Interest in contributing to the success of the New York and New Jersey regions

  • Interest in public service and/or transportation

Internship Details

  • The start date will be Thursday, May 28, 2026

  • The internship will last approximately 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 21, 2026

  • This is a full-time internship (5 days per week at 7.25 hours per day)

  • In accordance with Port Authority policy, this position permits interns to work remotely a maximum of one day per week. In person collaboration is essential to how the Port Authority conducts business and regular in-office days or team collaboration days may be required depending on business needs. Some internships may require interns to be fully in-person.

Compensation & Benefits

  • The hourly rate range is $18.07 to $30.31 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year)
