STW:LCE-SAFE Program Graduate Assistant

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Program Director, the Graduate Assistant (GA) will aid in the administration, facilitation of education, training & development, and programming in Leadership and Community Engagement for the Students Achieving First-Year Excellence (SAFE) Program. As the SAFE Program Graduate this position will serve as an essential member of the SAFE Leadership Team (SAFE LT) by collaboratively leading and supporting programs and initiatives for the  36 undergraduate mentors and 180 first-year mentees. 

Primary Responsibilities of Position:

Supervision

• GA will assist the Program Director and Assistant Director in the ongoing supervision of 4 Coordinators and 36 SAFE Mentors.

Program Development

• SAFE Voyage: The GA is responsible for helping coordinate all activities prior to and during the week long SAFE Voyage. Activities include but are not limited to: sessions, mentee recruitment, welcome reception, schedule, catering and SAFE mentor skit performance, etc.
• SAFE Passage & SAFE Destination: The GA is responsible for helping coordinate all activities prior to and during SAFE Passage and Destination which are Spring Semester highlighted programs.
• Aid in the facilitation and overview of all monthly SAFE Programming
• SAFE GA will lead efforts on the SAFE Transfer Initiative to develop, implement, and assess programmatic efforts for SAFE transfer students.

Training and Development

• SAFE Staff Meetings: the GA is responsible for attending and aiding in the facilitation of all SAFE staff meetings. SAFE ETS which are monthly and SAFE LT Meetings which are biweekly.
• SAFE Mentor Training: GA is responsible for attending and aiding in the facilitation of all SAFE Trainings
• SAFE Mentor Recruitment/Selection: GA is responsible for assisting with SAFE Staff Recruitment process including but not limited to: tabling, reviewing applications, interviews, and team selection.

Student Support

• GA is responsible for aiding in the support of SAFE student staff and SAFE Mentees
• GA will host monthly 1-on-1s with SAFE Staff
• GA will aid in the implementation and review of SAFE Intentional Interactions.

Outreach

• GA will assist in ongoing outreach to SAFE alumni.

Assessment

• GA is responsible for assisting in the assessment of programs.

LCE Responsibilities

• GA will attend LCE Programs and meetings when needed.
• GA will be a stand in representative for LCE when other staff are not present.

Other Duties as Assigned

• GA will have the opportunity to participate in other LCE initiatives based on their learning outcomes and learning contract.
