Gig: photographer for the university art collection

The Project
The university art collection is being placed on a new footing to match our university's status as an R1 research level institution. We have no existing publication-quality photos of the assets we hold. As part of an art history seminar for seniors, the Art History program has established an exhibition called the "Biennial Exhibition of Recent Acuisitions to the University Art Collection" (taking place April 16th 2026 for the first time. Students will write catalogue copy, curate and hang the show. Part of this will include the production of a catalog, and for this good quality photographs are necessary. The gig-student would be producing archival and publication quality material to assist the April show, but creating products with ongoing value to the university as a whole. The show will have 20-25 works on display.

Learning Experience
1) Publication credits for their photographic work 2) CV credit for the acquisition of their photographic work into the university archives 3) Longterm possibility of being a credited name in publications, especially for a future university art museum to say nothing of the experiencing of managing a complex project in a relatively low-stakes environment, skills that would translate to project management in many different employment contexts.

Outcomes
There will be 20-25 archival and publication quality images of recently acquired university assets There will be a catalogue of the exhibition with photo credits for the gig-student This will initiate a long and complex process of getting our university art collection up to standards in terms of documentation This will support research efforts by anyone seeking in the future to study and/or publish works in our collection that the student has photographed.
