Inequality Media with Robert Reich seeks a new part-time Digital & Social Media Intern to join our small team. This position can be filled immediately, and there is also an opportunity to extend the internship beyond fall 2024.
Compensation: $22.50 per hour
Hours: 8-20 hours per week (and/or more over summer)
Location: Berkeley, CA (or remote)
Reports to: Senior Social Media Strategist & Head Writer
Application review: Rolling basis with August 23, 2024 as priority deadline

Co-founded by former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich, Inequality Media educates and engages the public on economic inequality and imbalance of power in America through digital media. We use video to change the frames through which people understand the system, so they have the information they need to improve it and advance a more just society. Each week we produce social media content and videos featuring Robert Reich (and other presenters) explaining current economic and political issues, which are shared across digital platforms, including Robert Reich’s pages and channels. Our ultimate vision is an America where active participation by informed citizens levels the playing field in our democracy and creates an economy where the gains are widely shared. Position Overview
Responsibilities will include copywriting, editing, fact-checking, researching, and writing content, ranging from tweets to social share copy for Facebook, including to appear on Robert Reich’s pages and channels which have a collective reach of over 8 million people.
Responsibilities (including, but not limited to)
- Provide general support to the digital team, including Digital Strategists and Head of Content.
- Follow the news, including around politics and the economy, and identify relevant news stories to pull from and share.
- Write social share copy for Facebook and Twitter, including for Robert Reich’s pages and channels as well as Inequality Media’s branded accounts.
- Fact-check social share copy for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.
- Substantiate video scripts to ensure accuracy (from one-minute videos to mid-form explainers), including those that feature Prof. Reich.
- Monitor and engage with the comments sections of Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube; assess learnings and convey those to the digital team.
- Gather content from diverse, progressive voices to amplify across all social platforms..
- Support our team in collecting and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data across platforms, including identifying trends or strategies used by other publishers.
Qualifications
- Experience working with social media channels (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram and TikTok; Snapchat a plus!)
- Confidence with web publishing platforms (Facebook Creator Studio) and data analytics tools (e.g., Sprout Social)
- Knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital media, including TikTok trends that can fold into our educational outreach efforts
- Knowledge of and passion for current events, politics, and economics
- Familiarity with progressive politics
- Experience working with diverse communities, including related to communications efforts
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a small team
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including copy editing skills
- Strong organizational and troubleshooting skills
- Track record of showing strong judgment, critical thinking, and discernment in the workplace
- Strong follow through in time management, attention to detail, and reliability
