Job Description
Job Purpose
The Traffic Signal Design Project Engineer will be assigned to our Traffic Team. The engineer will have opportunities to work in signal design and traffic analysis and must have a willingness to perform general traffic engineering and transportation-related tasks, supporting various project managers.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Collaborate with team members and agencies
- Develop signal designs based on NCDOT and other State standards (VA, FL, and SC), including geometric layout, electrical details, and pole loading diagrams
- Assist with ITS and fiber optic plan designs
- Assist with Signal Design of alternative intersections and advanced signal features such as preemption for rail and emergency vehicles
- Traffic capacity and operational analyses
- Preparation of technical reports and deliverable file sets
- Perform site visits and data collection
Qualifications for Project Engineer I
- Possess a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a transportation-related degree
- Desire to work in the traffic engineering and transportation planning field
- 0-2 years of experience
- Ability to work independently and with a team
- Detail-oriented, proactive approach to tasks, highly motivated
- Strong communication skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Knowledge of MicroStation and/or AutoCAD is a plus
Additional Qualifications for Project Engineer II
- 2-5 years of experience
- Possess Engineer-In-Training (EIT)/Engineering Intern (EI) certification
- Master’s degree in civil or transportation engineering is a plus
- Ability to complete signal design and electrical details with minimal guidance
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Competent in using MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
- Knowledge of traffic engineering analysis software such as Synchro is a plus
