Job Description
The College of Art and Architecture, Department of Art and Art History Ceramics Studio is seeking studio Assistance for the 2022-2023 academic year. The Ceramics Studio is located in the Rowe Arts Building that contains a comprehensive range of equipment and resources for students to explore the entire spectrum of analog and digital approaches to working with clay. It consists of two classrooms, a Glaze/Raw Material Room, a Kiln Room with a storage area in the back, and a courtyard. Responsible, safety-minded students with an interest in clay and 3-dimensional practice are encouraged to apply. Prior experience in a ceramics studio or any craft-based studio is preferred but not required. (Training will be provided).
- Maintaining a clean and orderly studio space: including the classrooms, glaze room/raw material lab, and kiln room.
- General Cleaning tasks in the studio spaces: organize areas and put away tools; clean tables and other working surfaces; empty trash can and vacuum in the kiln room.
- Weekly floor rinse in the main studio (Rowe 192); this duty may coordinate with current students taking classes there.
- Tracking material inventory in the raw material lab and reporting to the studio technician.
- Refill the raw material bins in the raw material lab (Rowe 190A)
- Check hand-building class clay dry-mix weekly, and refill the bin when empty.
- Check class glazes and decorating slips weekly, and mix and refill as needed.
- Assisting the studio technician when receiving raw material orders, and helping move and lift bags of dry material to the storage area.
- Other duties as directed by the studio technician or with occasion by the ceramics faculty.
