R&D Engineer Intern

POSITION OBJECTIVE

Pureon Inc. is looking for a R&D Engineering Intern to join its New Product Development (NPD) Program. This position is based in Pureon’s North American R&D Laboratory on the campus of UNC Charlotte.

With this position being on campus, it allows flexible scheduling for students to gain valuable industry experience in between classes during the school year.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform laboratory experiments generally related to the areas of polishing.
• Evaluate new polishing slurry formulations, polishing pads, and other consumables in terms of their physical properties and polishing performance.
• Investigate and test new consumables for the precision polishing of various substrates with a focus on wafering processes for the compound semiconductor market.
• Follow all safety protocols and standard operating procedures.
• Learn to operate and calibrate lab machinery and instrumentation where needed
• Lift up to 50 lbs
• 10 – 20 hours/week of availability to work in lab during the school year (Start Jan 2027)
• Full Time (30 - 40 hours/week) over the summer

REQUIREMENTS/ SKILLS

• Currently pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering, a physical science, or appropriate engineering discipline.
• Strong PC skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Laboratory Competence – experience working in a laboratory environment.
• Analytical Skills – ability to generate and analyze large amounts of data.
• Communication Skills – ability to effectively communicate results of experiments to a broad audience
