Job Description Summary

The Military DoD SkillBridge program is an opportunity for Service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through specific industry training, apprenticeships, or internships during the last 180 days of service. SkillBridge connects Service members with industry partners in real-world job experiences under Dept. of Defense Instruction 1322.29. Separating Service members can be granted up to 180 days of permissive duty to focus solely on training full-time with approved industry partners after unit commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) provides written authorization and approval. GE Aviation as a Skill Bridge partner offers real-world training and work experience in in-demand fields of work while having the opportunity to evaluate the Service member's suitability for the work. Military DoD SkillBridge participants are not eligible for compensation from GE Aviation, as they continue to receive military compensation and benefits as active-duty service members.

Job Description

The EHS Specialist performs designated tasks and specific duties within the EHS department independently and as assigned to help assure compliance for plant operations

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ensures compliance of site operations with regulatory requirements related to environmental, Health and Safety impacts.

  • Performs site training, maintaining of EHS records, implementing and updating site procedures and utilizing software systems including but not exclusive to Gensuite for file maintenance

  • Provides input to Site Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) council

  • Anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control workplace health hazards.

  • Lead injury and illness tracking, case management along with root cause analysis.

  • Review, approve and conduct risk assessments. Including assisting in the coordination of risk reduction projects.

  • Executes site internal and external EHS requirements.

  • Communicates with vendors, contractors, EPA, OSHA, and other external sources to complete various tasks.

  • Performs multimedia audits and revalidates Framework Scorecards

  • Independently produces regulatory reports by collecting raw data, processing information, and completing the reports.

  • Develops and maintain site EHS procedures.

  • Lead site risk reduction initiatives including driving operational Risk Identification and Strength of Defense ownership

  • Performs other tasks as needed and requested

Individuals selected for this internship will have the responsibility and authority to carry out all assigned tasks

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Active Military personnel

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience in Environmental Health & Safety)

  • Minimum of 18 months of experience in Environmental Health and Safety in a manufacturing environment

Desired Skills / Experience:

  • Bachelor degree in EHS/Engineering

  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office Suite and other basic IT systems

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, in both written and verbal form, to a wide variety of stakeholders

  • Possesses the ability to represent GE in a professional manner to outside agencies, customers, and vendors

  • Demonstrated capability of understanding and operating chemical/mechanical processes

  • Prior experience with controlled documentation/documentation change management

  • Demonstrated initiative in proactively identifying future potential safety risks and suggesting or implementing appropriate countermeasures

  • Prior demonstrated proficiency with a wide variety of chemical/mechanical processes, testing, and/or related six sigma initiatives

  • CSP or CIH certification

  • Ability to read, understand, interpret and apply applicable EHS regulations as they apply to the plant site

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
