Job Description

As a Food and Beverage Intern, you will assist with planning and management of the Food and Beverage venues in concert with your peers as appropriate to achieve great customer satisfaction, quality service and compliance with company policies and procedures. Recommends promotional ideas and procedural changes, assists with budget preparation, forecasting, and implementation. 

This is a paid Summer Internship that offers invaluable insight into the Food and Beverage industry.  

 

Essential Job Duties

  • Learn how to manage the department staff to retain, and motivate employees; hire, schedule, train, develop, empower, coach, and counsel employees; conduct performance and salary reviews, resolve problems, provide open communications and recommend discipline and termination, as appropriate in coordination with the Human Resources Director and Food and Beverage Director. 
  • Learn to monitor and control personnel and bar budget (labor costs, beverage costs, supplies, equipment, etc.).
  • Help to ensure supplies and equipment are secure and inventoried on a regular basis. Restocks items used daily. 
  • Assist staff to ensure that the Food and Beverage venues are maintained in a sanitary state in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Learn to monitor guest satisfaction, ensure the service of food and beverages in a timely manner, and resolve customer complaints.
  • Assists with implementation of creative strategies to increase revenues.
  • Assists with implementation of new policies and operating procedures, ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations to ensure optimal customer service. 
  • Performs in accordance with ABC Laws and Regulations and is responsible in securing alcoholic beverages after hours.
  • Gain insight on financial transactions and monitor budgets to ensure efficient operation, and to ensure expenditures stay within budget limitations in coordination with the Food & Beverage Director.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Food & Beverage Manager.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Spend time learning responsibilities for supervising restaurant, bar, and events staff, overall direction, coordination, and evaluation. Directly supervises bar, dining room, and event staff.

  •   Excellent written and open verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to think creatively and enlist support of management, peers and employees for ideas.

  • Strong planning, budgeting, scheduling and problem-solving skills.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook)

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in College or University with a Major in Hospitality or a related field.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Third-year university student or higher (Junior or rising Junior).
  • Able to work a full 10 weeks without interruption.
  • Enthusiastic about hospitality, with a proactive and adaptable approach.

  • Must be able to endure long periods of sitting, standing or walking in a hot, humid environment.
  • Will be occasionally required to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing up to 15 pounds without assistance.
  • Must be able to reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping and use hands and fingers to handle, or feel. 
  • Drive vehicle for performance of duties.
