The Internship
As a Community Engagement & Events Intern, you will support the planning and execution of Chamber programs and events while helping us strengthen connections with our members and the broader community. This is a highly interactive role where no two days look the same, you’ll be behind the scenes and on the front lines of some of Matthews’ most engaging business events.

Learning Experience
Through this internship, the student will gain hands-on, real-world experience in a fast-paced, professional environment while developing both practical and transferable skills. Interns will learn how to plan and execute successful events, create engaging marketing content, and build meaningful relationships within a business community. They will also develop key professional skills such as communication, organization, time management, and adaptability. By working directly with Chamber staff, local leaders, and business owners, the intern will gain valuable insight into how a Chamber of Commerce supports economic development and community growth. This experience is designed to help students build confidence, expand their professional network, and leave with tangible skills and accomplishments that will strengthen their resume and future career opportunities.

Outcomes
By the end of the internship, the student will have successfully contributed to the planning and execution of multiple Chamber events and initiatives. They will have developed a portfolio of work that may include social media content, event support materials, and community engagement efforts. The intern is expected to demonstrate growth in professionalism, communication, and organizational skills, as well as increased confidence in interacting with business leaders and community members. They will gain a strong understanding of Chamber operations and the role it plays in supporting local businesses and economic development.
