Job Description

All Save the Children employees are required to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 unless otherwise required by law. Summary

Skills to Succeed (S2S) is a global program addressing the global youth unemployment crisis, assisting more than100,000 at-risk youth ages 14-24 to acquire skills and competencies needed to get a job or build a business. S2S provides vocational and technical skills, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, life skills training, mentoring and job placement for young people in their transition from school to work. With support of Accenture, the program is currently implemented in China, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Italy, Mexico, South Africa and Vietnam.

Save the Children wants to ensure all youth have the same opportunities to succeed, and as such disability inclusion is a priority in our current strategy. The Fellow will support initiatives focused on advancing disability inclusion in Save the Children’s youth employment and life skills programming.

What You’ll be Doing (Essential Duties & Responsibilities)

  • Support the S2S Knowledge Management, Communications and Thought leadership strategy by researching and preparing for conferences and events where the S2S team can share best practices and learnings, with a particular focus on events focused on inclusion.
  • Collaborate with S2S staff to develop presentations and key communications assets that capture the learnings and best practices from the program. Support the creation of newsletters and help to document inclusion and climate pilots.
  • Work with Disability Advisors and country office counterparts to develop capacity statements and case studies for use in business development and fund raising.
  • Analyze and summarize the key findings of Labor Market Assessments conducted in 5 countries to develop a brief for each market with a focus on inclusion. Work with S2S Global MEAL staff and country staff to develop and document job linkage strategies based on evidence from the labor market assessments.
  • Other responsibilities as identified by Skills to Succeed Director and fellow.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be an actively enrolled in an Associate, Bachelor, Master or other post high school education program, or have graduated within 6 months of intern program start date.
  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience in disability inclusion in international development, in one of the following sectors: youth employment, inclusive education, adolescent life skills, climate, gender equality.
  • Experience collaborating with Organizations of People with Disabilities and/or strong networks within disability rights communities in the US or abroad.
  • Possess strong written skills, solid interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Currently eligible to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Academic focus on international development in either development or humanitarian settings, in a thematic or geographic area in which Save the Children works.
  • Experience working with a Disabled People’s Organization.
  • Language skills in American Sign Language or Braille.
  • Familiarity/experience using adaptive or assistive technology for people with disabilities.
