Profile of Your Organization The Mint Hill Chamber of Commerce (MHCC) is a member-driven organization dedicated to advancing economic growth, workforce development, and community leadership in Mint Hill, North Carolina. Serving approximately 250 member businesses, the Chamber acts as a central convener, connector, and advocate for the local business community. With both a 501(c)(6) Chamber and a 501(c)(3) Foundation, MHCC is uniquely positioned to support business success while also driving workforce and community-based initiatives. The organization delivers more than 80 programs annually, including networking events, leadership development opportunities, and signature initiatives such as the Career Exploration Fair, Internship Program, and Junior Ambassador Program. Under the leadership of President & CEO Paige McKinney, IOM, the Chamber has prioritized innovation, measurable impact, and strategic partnerships—particularly in aligning business needs with education and workforce pipelines. The Internship

Accreditation & Organizational Excellence Intern
Project Description:
The Mint Hill Chamber of Commerce is seeking a GIG intern to support a high-impact organizational initiative focused on achieving U.S. Chamber Accreditation. This project will involve evaluating current operations, organizing key documentation, and aligning internal policies and procedures with national standards for chamber excellence.
The intern will play a critical role in strengthening the Chamber’s infrastructure by improving document management systems, supporting KPI tracking, and assisting in the development of governance and operational materials. This work will directly contribute to enhancing the Chamber’s effectiveness, accountability, and long-term sustainability.
Learning Experience
The student will gain hands-on experience in nonprofit management, organizational development, and strategic operations through direct involvement in a high-impact accreditation initiative. This project provides a unique opportunity to work on real-world challenges that align with national standards for chamber excellence, offering exposure to governance, compliance, and performance measurement.
Through this experience, the student will develop valuable skills in research, data analysis, policy development, and project management. They will also strengthen their ability to organize complex information, think critically, and contribute to strategic decision-making within a professional environment.
Additionally, the student will gain insight into how chambers of commerce support local businesses and drive economic development, while building professional communication skills and confidence working with leadership. The work completed during this internship will result in tangible deliverables that can be showcased in their portfolio and serve as a strong foundation for future career opportunities.
Outcomes
The expected outcomes of this project include the development of a well-organized and centralized system for accreditation materials, improved alignment of the Chamber’s policies and procedures with U.S. Chamber Accreditation standards, and enhanced tracking of key performance indicators.
By the conclusion of the internship, the Chamber will have a more efficient document management structure, updated governance and operational materials, and a clearer understanding of any gaps that remain in the accreditation process. The student will also produce a summary report outlining progress, key findings, and recommended next steps toward achieving accreditation.
Overall, this project will strengthen the Chamber’s organizational effectiveness, support long-term strategic goals, and advance progress toward formal accreditation.
