Job Description
Overview
As a Civil Engineering Intern for Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) in the Waste Management Practice in our Charlotte, NC office, you’ll support in-office and field activities primarily associated with solid waste landfill and transfer station facilities. In-office activities may include engineering tasks such as researching sites’ histories, tabulating laboratory and field test data, compiling technical reports, and being exposed to and supporting various design efforts like stormwater management system design, leachate generation modeling, and landfill gas generation. You may also support AutoCAD designs depending on your AutoCAD experience. Field activities may include observation and logging of geotechnical borings and test pits, Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) tasks such as monitoring and documenting landfill cell, cap, and gas collection system construction, and use of equipment for landfill air quality monitoring. You will interact and communicate with CEC office and field staff, clients, and contractors.

Qualifications
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering program;
- Ability to effectively communicate with people by talking face-to-face and by email;
- Have organizational skills;
- Ability to write daily reports;
- Able to use Excel Spreadsheets to prepare calculations and analyze data;
- Willing and able to work in the field;
- Have a valid driver’s license; and
- Local candidates preferred.
