SALARY: $54,197 - $94,844
The Challenge
We are hiring an entry level Assistant County Maintenance Engineer to join our Maintenance Engineering team.
In this role, you will:
- Build, maintain, improve, and provide a safe highway transportation system within the approved budget and consistent with all laws/regulations governing the State Highway System.
- Serve as a technical advisor for our County Maintenance Engineer in the planning, organizing, scheduling, and completing of all maintenance, force account, and purchase order contract construction operations in Pender and Onslow counties.
- Use your professional engineering skills and knowledge to solve challenging highway problems.
- Supervise and evaluate staff performance.
- Assist in the supervision and monitoring of maintenance program to ensure efficient use of staff, equipment, and materials.
What You Bring
- Ability to establish good working relationships between NCDOT and the public.
- Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
- Customer service experience related to solving problems involving explaining complicated engineering concepts to customer groups.
- Experience applying engineering concepts to solving complex problems.
- Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments.
- Computer experience, including Microsoft Office and drafting software.
- You promote a safe work environment.
- Good communications skills and ability to maintain working relationships with the public, local government officials, employees, etc.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and reports.
- Ability to prepare and review reports.
- Safety toe shoes.
Notes
- We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
- While this position is based in Castle Hayne, on a daily basis you will report to either our Pender County Maintenance Office in Burgaw or Onslow County Maintenance in Jacksonville.
- You will be exposed to outside environmental hazards and may be required to work nights and weekends.
Education & Experience
- Bachelors Degree in engineering; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
