Postdoctoral Research Associate in Experimental Fluid Mechanics

The Pipeline Hydro-transport Lab, a branch of WASTE Lab in the Department of Engineering Technology at Northern Illinois University has an immediate opening for one postdoctoral fellow in experimental fluid mechanics. The selected candidates will engage in hands-on experimental work on a high-impact fluid mechanics project supported by the USDA. This project experimentally explores pipeline hydro-transport as an alternative mode of delivery of biomass, and is expected to contribute significantly to the multi-billion-dollar agriculture industry in the United States.

We are seeking applications from individuals with a PhD in mechanical engineering, aerospace or chemical engineering at the time of employment. The position is a 12-month (full-time) appointment, with renewal possible for a maximum of three years. Review of applications will begin after July 20, 2024.

Requirements (MUST HAVE):

·        Currently residing in the U.S., and legally authorized to work in the U.S.

·        Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or closely related fields

·        Solid knowledge of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer

·        Prior research experience in experimental fluid mechanics; knowledge of instrumentation, flow visualizations and control; track record of mentoring students; and publications in the field will be considered assets

·        Proven skills in reviewing literature and writing scientific papers

Responsibilities:

·        Design and conduct experimental research, analyze data and publish findings in high-impact scientific journals

·        Mentor undergrad and graduate students in their research projects

·        Provide training and mentorship in research techniques and methodologies

·        Assist the lab PI in writing grant proposals

·        Manage budgets and resources for funded projects, also manage research projects including timelines and deliverables

·        Ensure compliance with institutional and funding agency regulations
