Electric Vehicle Service Technician Co-Op Intern
Location: Charlotte, NC (with strong partnerships with UNCC Department of Engineering)
Duration & Type: 3-month, Paid Co-Op Internship

The Opportunity
You'll take what you've learned in class and put it to work on real electric vehicles, from basic e-scooters to high-performance machines. This means hands-on diagnostics, troubleshooting electrical systems with professional tools, and solving actual problems that riders face every day. You're not just getting internship experience—you're jumping into a booming industry where the skills you build here can launch your career in electric transportation.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform essential service repairs including tire replacements, brake adjustments, and mechanical component maintenance
- Conduct advanced electrical diagnostics using multimeters to test voltage, continuity, and system integrity on batteries and control circuits
- Troubleshoot complex issues across different vehicle configurations, from standard commuter models to high-performance variants
- Diagnose and evaluate electronic controllers, motor systems, and power management components
- Apply engineering principles to identify root causes of mechanical and electrical failures
- Document repair procedures and maintain detailed service records for fleet optimization
- Collaborate with engineering teams to provide field feedback on vehicle performance and reliability
What We're Looking For
Required:
- Currently enrolled in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related technical program
- Hands-on experience with basic tools and mechanical systems
- Understanding of electrical fundamentals (voltage, current, resistance, continuity testing)
- Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple repair priorities
- Strong communication skills for technical documentation
Bonus:
- Experience with multimeters and electrical diagnostic equipment
- Familiarity with battery systems or electric vehicle components
- Previous internship or co-op experience in automotive/mechanical field
- Knowledge of motor controllers or power electronics
- Experience with different vehicle types (motorcycles, bicycles, small engines etc)
